Alwasat

Alwasat is a privately owned Libyan news portal launched in 2014 by Alwasat Media Group, which also operates a weekly newspaper, radio and a television channel. Edited largely from Cairo because of insecurity in Libya, it publishes rolling Arabic-language coverage of Libyan politics, the economy and the country's rival governments, and is among Libya's most widely followed news sites.

Is Alwasat left-leaning, right-leaning or centrist?

Crosswire lists Alwasat as Center within Libya's media spectrum — the grouping it uses both for genuinely centrist titles and for outlets the major media-bias assessments do not place consistently on one side.

Read Alwasat beside another title from Libya and the differences show up fastest in what leads the page. A portal front page is part newsroom and part aggregator, so on Alwasat the editorial signal is in the ordering and in which syndicated stories get promoted next to the original reporting — read it beside a single-newsroom title and the difference in what each chooses to carry is immediate. Because Alwasat is listed near the centre, it works best as the fixed point in a comparison — put a left- and a right-leaning title from Libya either side of it and the direction each one pulls becomes measurable rather than impressionistic.

This is an approximate orientation, not a definitive judgement — and not a rating of quality or accuracy. Read how Crosswire classifies editorial leanings, including the sources behind each label. Directory last reviewed . Think this label is wrong? Suggest a correction.
